- From school I went straight to Porlock Vale
Equitation
Centre to train as a Working Pupil. At that time 'white glove'
grooming inspections were the order of the day and standards in
all areas of riding and horse care were extremely high.
- Here at
Porlock I attained my BHSAI.
The high standards of
Porlock stood me in good stead for the following three and a half
years in a private show jumping yard with the late Baron Eric de
Wykerslooth. Firstly for two years in Belgium and then for a
further eighteen months in Sussex when the whole Belgian set up
moved here to England.
The Baron was a perfectionist in the
schooling of quality young horses, having spent his own formative
years with the d'Inzeo brothers and Nelson Pessoa. I was lucky
enough to be the Baron's rider following his own retirement and
spent three wonderful years breaking, schooling and jumping a
huge variety of lovely quality horses.
In need of broadening my
horizons away from the show jumping circuit I then spent eleven
years at the Fortune Centre of Riding Therapy, not only riding,
and teaching BHS students, but also running the RDA section.
Mixed in with this was more breaking and training of New Forest
ponies as well as competing at BHS Horse Trials and showing! I
was also closely involved in teaching a young lad over from the
Island of Sark - Carl Hester, and accompanied him to many of his
first competitions as ' box driver, groom and coach'!!. I gained
my full BHSII during this time.
- In 1988, I married
Patrick Kempe and after the arrival of our
- son Andrew set up as a
freelance 'Equestrienne'.
I am on the committee of
the New Forest Pony Enthusiasts Riding Club,
not only as 'Vice Chairman' but
also as Chef de Equipe
for their jumping teams.
