The championships at Munster in July 1985. These national championships, usually held in Berlin or Munich, were for the first time held in the old town of Munster. At Munster, there is the splendid backdrop of the Schloss or castle and the whole area was freely open to the public to come and go as they pleased. It was noticeable how much interest the university students showed as they pedaled past on their bicycles, each pausing to observe for a while before proceeding. They were especially rooted to the spot to watch the brilliance of their own Munster based world champion, Dr.Reiner Klimke. The show jumping arena was set in a beautiful natural amphitheatre and apart from top class show jumping,there were entertaining displays plus the colourful spectacle of the prize giving and medal giving ceremonies. It is sad that many
